Luxury Vinyl Plank has become the most requested flooring type in Connecticut homes — and for good reason. It looks like hardwood, costs less, handles moisture, and holds up to kids, pets, and heavy foot traffic without flinching. At ACS Wood Floors, we install LVP throughout Farmington, West Hartford, Avon, Simsbury, and the rest of Hartford County.
Unlike the vinyl of 20 years ago, today’s LVP is built in multiple layers: a rigid or semi-rigid core for stability, a realistic photographic layer that mimics hardwood or stone grain, and a durable wear layer on top that resists scratches and scuffs. The result is a floor that is genuinely hard to distinguish from the real thing — until you spill something and it just wipes clean.
LVP is the ideal choice for spaces where hardwood would struggle. Bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, and kitchens all benefit from its 100% waterproof core. It also works beautifully over radiant heating systems, which can be a problem for solid hardwood. If you are renovating a basement or a bathroom, LVP is almost always our recommendation.
Most LVP installs as a floating floor using a click-lock system, meaning it can go directly over your existing subfloor — or even over existing tile or vinyl in many cases — without gluing or nailing. This makes installation faster and the process significantly cleaner. We carry dozens of styles and colors and will bring samples to your home so you can see them in your own lighting.
LVP installation starts at $1.60 per square foot for labor, plus materials. We offer free in-home estimates and flexible financing with up to 12 interest-free installments.

Yes — the core of quality LVP is 100% waterproof. However, water can still seep through the seams if left standing for extended periods. We recommend cleaning up spills promptly, but day-to-day moisture (bathroom humidity, pet accidents, spills) will not damage the floor.
In many cases, yes. LVP can float over existing hardwood, tile, or vinyl as long as the surface is reasonably flat and in good condition. We assess this during your estimate and will let you know if any subfloor prep is needed.
Hardwood still carries a slight edge for resale value in Connecticut, but quality LVP is
increasingly well-received by buyers. For spaces like basements and bathrooms, LVP actually increases appeal since buyers know hardwood would not be appropriate there anyway.
