Laminate flooring delivers the look of hardwood at a fraction of the cost — and when installed by experienced hands, it can be genuinely beautiful. At ACS Wood Floors, we offer professional laminate installation throughout Farmington and Hartford County, using quality products from trusted manufacturers.
Modern laminate is built from a high-density fiberboard core with a photographic layer that replicates wood grain, stone, or tile patterns. The wear layer on top is harder than most real wood species, making it highly resistant to scratches, dents, and staining. For households with kids, pets, and heavy daily use, laminate is a practical and attractive option.
The main limitation of laminate is moisture. Unlike LVP, laminate has a wood-fiber core that can swell and warp when exposed to standing water. For that reason, we generally do not recommend laminate for bathrooms, laundry rooms, or below-grade spaces. For living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and above-grade spaces, it is an excellent choice.
Laminate also cannot be refinished — once the wear layer is through, the floor needs to be replaced. Quality laminate with a thicker wear layer (AC3 or AC4 rating) will last 15 to 25 years in residential use.
This is the question we get most often. Both look like hardwood and cost less than the real thing. The key differences: LVP is 100% waterproof and softer underfoot; laminate is slightly harder and more scratch-resistant but is not waterproof. If you are doing a whole-house floor and some rooms have moisture risk, we often recommend LVP throughout for consistency. If
you are doing a single above-grade space on a tight budget, laminate may be the better value. We will give you an honest recommendation during your estimate.

With proper care, quality laminate lasts 15 to 25 years in residential settings. AC3-rated
laminate is suitable for moderate residential traffic; AC4 is better for high-traffic areas.
Yes, in many cases. Laminate can float over existing hardwood or vinyl as long as the surface is flat and stable. It cannot go over carpet. We will assess your subfloor during the estimate.
Connecticut’s seasonal humidity swings can be a challenge for laminate. We always leave proper expansion gaps around the perimeter and recommend maintaining indoor humidity between 35% and 65% year-round. A quality laminate from a reputable brand handles these fluctuations well.
